FIRE Number

Your FIRE number is the total investment portfolio value you need to retire and live off your investments indefinitely. The most common formula is your annual expenses multiplied by 25 (based on the 4% withdrawal rule). If you spend $40,000 a year, your FIRE number is $1,000,000. It's the single most important target in the FIRE movement.
