Asset Allocation

Asset allocation is how you divide your portfolio across asset classes — typically stocks, bonds, cash, and sometimes real estate or commodities. Research consistently shows asset allocation explains the majority of a portfolio's long-term return variation, more than individual stock picks. A common starting framework is '110 minus your age' in stocks, with the rest in bonds — but your allocation should ultimately reflect your goals, timeline, and tolerance for drawdowns.
